THE MOVIE: CRITIC'S TAKE
When this movie first came out I was not interested. I don't find Ben Stiller all that funny and I think his supporting cast in his films are what brings in the laughs. Word of mouth finally got to me and I decided to give it a view. I did not watch the first two films so I'm not familiar with this trilogy. I'm very glad that I watched this movie because I haven't laughed this hard in a very long time. This movie is everything people said it was.
One happy family? |
STORY
The story begins with Greg Focker, played by Ben Stiller, getting his family in order. He's throwing his son a birthday party at their new home and he's running into some obstacles. His landscaper Randy, played by Harvey Keital, dug a huge ditch in his backyard. It doesn't look like it's going to be ready in time so his good friend Kevin, played by Owen Wilson, offers his estate for the party. This pleases Jack, played by Robert De Niro, because he wants Kevin to be the one to marry his daughter. He finds him more fit to carry on his family's legacy other than good old Greg Focker. Why should he not? Kevin is loaded!

She looks drugged. |
From the very beginning everyone knew how hot she was including Focker. He decided to keep it a secret from his wife that led Jack to become even more suspicious. He follows him a few times and witnesses a scene that would make any father upset. Unfortunately for Greg, Andy had a little too much to drink and became a Girl Gone Wild.
I would so suck your dick right now. |
Greg's father Bernie, played by Dustin Hoffman, payed him an unknowing visit to his new home. The father was out and about in Spain going through his manopause and learning a few new dance steps. He knows his son best and knows that he didn't cheat. He gives him some advice on how to fix his family and win over Jack once and for all. When Greg finally arrived at his son's birthday party Jack was in no mood to talk. The showdown of the ages happened when Greg Focker went toe to toe with Jack Byrnes. A very funny scene that paid homages to a few classic movies. By the end of the film Greg finally got what he always wanted...respect from Jack Byrnes.

ACTING
I have zero complaints in this department. I think everyone brought their A game to this movie. Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro never let me down with their tension and their mellow sense of trying to outsmart the other. Jessica Alba and Owen Wilson did great jobs as well. They brought in the side relief with their cheerful personas. The children did a great job as well, delivering some one liners and classic children misbehavior. The characters were believable and everyone looked to be having fun. You can tell they worked hard and enjoyed doing it.
SPECIAL EFFECTS
Not too many mind boggling effects here. There are a few disgusting gags that came out of nowhere that will probably have you in tears. You never see these things coming which makes for a fun movie and not a waste of your time.

WRITING AND DIRECTING
The movie was written by John Hamburg and Larry Stuckey. They did a great job with the pacing of this movie. Not once was I bored or disinterested. They were able to bring in many laughs that wasn't out of character for any of the characters. The dialog felt natural which helped with the cast chemistry. The film was directed by Peter Weitz. He did an amazing job keeping the feel of the film with his lighting. The film is always bright even in dark settings, keeping the film at a peaceful aura. He did a great job!
THE END
I started out not even wanting to watch Little Fockers to enjoying it. It's definitely worth a watch if you're into comedies. If you saw the first two films then I'm sure you will love this one. It made me want to watch the first two. That rarely happens.
