The Lost Boys: The Thirst Review

Please be better than the last!
 THE MOVIE: CRITIC'S TAKE

When I first heard about the movie I was very disappointed. I saw The Lost Boys: The Tribe and thought that film was complete rubbish. I don't even consider that a direct sequel to the original Lost Boys. You can imagine how much I dreaded wanting to view this movie. To my surprise the movie was better than I expected. Skip The Tribe and watch The Thirst. I guarantee you won't be completely disappointed.

STORY

The film begins with Edgar, played by Corey Feldman, and his brother Alan Frog, played by Jamison Newlander, breaking up a vampire suck fest. Everything was going according to plan until his brother Alan was bitten from a vamp and was forced to drink his blood. This sent Edgar down a very disturbing path for 5 years. When he finally came too he was being evicted from his trailer for not paying on his loans. What does a guy like him do? Sell his cherished comic books of course. Anything to make ends meet right? Well here is where we met Zoe, played by Casey B. Dolan. She is a cute little thing with a crush on Edgar. Even though it is never stated you can tell she's all into him and why shouldn't she? He's all man!

Isn't he beautiful

A woman by the name of Gwen, played by Tanit Phoenix, finds Edgar and asks him for his help. A man by the name of the DJ X, played by Seb Castang, is giving vampire blood to humans so he can build an army. Her brother was kidnapped and harnest for blood until the rave arrived. At first he didn't want to help her but after a few flashbacks from the first movie, and the guilt of losing his brother, changed his mind. He recruited Zoe and a reality tv star to help him take down this DJ X. Things proved to be harder than it looked and an adventure was created.

Sexy but deadly!

The vampires are sexy, beautiful, and fierce... everything the tribe wasn't. The last 25 mins had a lot of action, twists, and turns, and very much of campiness that made this B movie worth watching. I don't want to spoiler it for anyone but I will say the body count is high, the ending was well done, and the women were hot. For a B movie this movie should have been released in theaters because it wasn't bad at all.

Brothers for life!

ACTING

This movie had a lot of chemistry. More than I thought it would ever have. Corey played his character very well and reminded me of the original Lost Boys. Zoe had to be the highlight of the film. She was cute, unafraid, and had a unique presence to her. I can see her doing more films in the future. You can tell that the actors and actresses cared about this film and tried their hardest. That's what we fans are asking for from a straight to DVD film. The casting director should get a bonus because he/she picked the cast well.

SPECIAL EFFECTS

For this low budget film the special effects weren't over the top. The vampires looked more real and were more vicious than the other film. There was one cheesy special effect but it shouldn't mess up your viewing. For a horror film the gore was there when needed and nothing was too much. I swear whomever produced the second film learned from their mistakes and made every improvement possible. I'm glad someone got the wake up call.

WRITING AND DIRECTING

The movie was written by Evan Charnov and Hans Rodionoff. These two did a great job with the dialog and the feel of the story. There is some cheesy dialog here but only one of them will make you want to vomit. Well maybe two but overall it felt natural enough for a film like this. It was directed by Daira Piano. The director here filmed it like no amateur and gave us what we wanted. The film was darkly lit throughout the film to capture the feel of the movie and nothing was out of focus. He filmed the women beautifully and did not take advantage of their good looks even though he could have. For a B movie the director knew what he was doing.

Why do I still have a boner?

THE END

Forget about The Tribe and watch The Thirst. This is the only sequel I will count. The back story is here and a lot of your questions are answered. The women are hot, the soundtrack is surprisingly good, and the villains are menacing. The writing isn't too bad and the directing is much better than you think. Give it a viewing over at Netfilx if you like. I'm sure you will enjoy it! I know Joel Schumacher will!
